Author Topic: Windsurfing spots and rentals in Singapore!?  (Read 853 times)

Hi,

I'm planning to go to Singapore between the 17th oand 20th. I really would like to do some windsurfing. Are there some spots in in pretty close to Singapore? Since I need a Visa to get to Indonesia (Swedish citizen) and it is not possible to get upon arrival, Bintan does not seem to be an option... Are there some other spots where equipment can be rented?

Cheers,

Daniel

Pasta Fresca dude, it's the only way to go :-)

Check them out on http://www.pastafrescaseasportscentre.com.sg

They're filling in the blanks at the mo, but you can mail them for added info. Jasmine will gladly rent her gear to you. It's not top-notch, but you'll have fun nonetheless.

Ciao!

Please lah! What talking u? Pasta Fresca ? What a joke! Top notch? Not even close.
The equipment there is junk, the mafia who runs the place doesn’t do much to up keep the windsurfing equipment or the welfare of the members. He would rather spent on buying a new meat slicers that cost $10k then to spend on windsurfing equipment.
So my suggestion, if you intend to sail here is to buy your own or borrow, club med has better equipment then the so called sea sports center.
Good Luck!

Actually it does seem to be possible for those nationalities (eg Sweden, Holland among others) not given visa on arrival privilege, to obtain a visa to Bintan, once you are in Singapore.

I am informed it takes about three days and you have to confirm the hotel you are staying at, among other criteria.

If you decide to make a visit to Bintan, most of Mana Mana rental kit, Starboard and Severne, is either '05 or '06.

Hi,

Thanks for the info. If it takes 3 days to get a Visa to Bintan that will not be an option since I just gonna be away for ther weekend. Buy equipment is of course not an option either since I will be away such a short period (and going to a the land locked country Laos...) So the only options left seem to be renting somewhere in Singapore or Malaysia. These places you referring to, how far from Singapore are they? How old and bad are the eiqupment? Still shortboards/Formula/courseraceboards or traditional longbords?!

-Regards,

Daniel

daniel,

probably the best place to rent in S'pore is Pasta Fresca (only choice for decent shortboards).

agreed that the gears are nothing to shout about, but at least u get to windsurf and that matters most.
look for Robert or Sudin, they may have some better 'hidden' gears for u.

we are having some good 10+ kts days right now before the monsoon kicks in.

happy sailing

Meng, the club has only soft sails left for rent, I wonder how that will work on a short board

Vinc,

there are some rather dated hardsails there.
the rental guys are selective in renting it out.
only better proven sailors will get to use it.
otherwise, it's all soft sails.

Am sorry but I have to disagree with you. I have been windsurfing for 20 years, and have been there twice to rent gear. When I asked to rent their best sails, they told me that what I see is what I get. The biggest was a 6m NP soft sail at least 15 years old. They even got upset once that I showed a friend of mine a few basics of windsurf

hi pmp,

seems that the rental guys saw an unfamiliar face and that's why you got the bland replies.
where do u normally wsf for the past 20 yrs ?

i'm surprised to learn the rental guys got upset when u were demostrating wsf basics to your friend.

there are some really dated shortboards and not soft sails at the rental racks. the guys need to be coaxed, otherwise it will be regular soft sail and stuffs.

happy sailing

I have been windsurf since the age of 13 in Greece.
I have been here in Singapore just over a year.
Havent decided to buy formula yet since I travel a lot,
and I would not get enough days on the water.
But I would rent equipment every weekend I get a chance expecially
now that the monsoon starts.
