I was at the famous Zandvort beach (the Netherlands) last Sunday and I met a dutch guy who came to sg many years back. He remembered ECSC and he was very impressed with what he saw. He said that the place was so beautifully built like a resort ( and he mentioned like in Thailand). He was right because I'm sure Thailand has much nicer beaches than sg and they don't any how destroy what they have built like us in sg; destroying the cabanas that Robert, Deen and company had built. And all this in the name of some man-made laws to allow everyone access to the beach. It's so sad. Btw, the Netherlands has very beautiful beaches with lots of restaurants but none of these restaurants (at Zandvort, Noordwijk, Katwijk, Ijmuiden, Wijk aan Zee, Bergen aan Zee, Callantsoog)has architecture and ambiance even close to what are the remains of ECSC.

Nori, NickTeo is our ex-national sailor in S'pore. He's currently windsurfing in Holland and perfecting his Shaka Laksa and Pandan Vulcan. We are looking forward to see him in the coming monsoon.

Nick,
can't agree more, its sad to see the beach front area looking run down now. To be fair to the authorities involved the structures and the fencing off of the beach was illegal from day one, everything from the high water mark to 15 metres inland is public beach in singapore. On the plus side the lagoon is now part of a nicer park overall. In the end we have ourselves to blame, much hang wringing and complaining was done but no one wanted to step forward and take up the issues...

some time back it was illegal to play football on some fields until some mp decided to promote interaction among the kids of different races, then it is not illegal anymore. man-made laws can be changed and are always changing to suit the needs at different time.

Well, wats over is over. Most importantly, we still have a small area left to feed our windsurf addiction. Speaking of which, NE seems to be coming early this year...

Just arrived back from Scotland and Holland. Very strong gale force winds the last couple of weeks.
Zandvoort is quite a nice holiday town in the sand dunes on the Dutch coast. Great on a sunny summers day but a bit bleak in the winter for tropical types. In the late 80's, cant remember exact year, close to half a million spectators showed up along its beach to watch the first Dutch PBA event. Included Robbie Nash and many others. Probably still a record for any windsurfing event in the world.
The Zandvoort race track is where I used to go and watch F1 races in the 60's and early 70's. Sadly no more F1 in Holland but the track is still there in the sand dunes and racing goes on.

Ai yaaaa, , talk about no protecting – I able to just walk into PF the other day. Nowsadays, anyone can just walk in, even can use toilet for free. You know the fans in the toilets, Whoa, they sure look like they have not been cleaned since even before Mr Singh was running the place ! Chi Chia Lat Tak. Yo, all you members got pay subscription fees or not ? Better come over to PA where the place is clean, the people cooler and the HONG much better during NE monsoon. luv Bro, SDK

It's good to see I'm not the only one here who is getting on in years!

I never knew RH was that old ! Talking of old days.....great pic in this months editorial page in (UK) Windsurf mag of an unfeasibly good Barrie Edgington blasting a DIV 2 board through the water. A hideous hat and the boom round his waist but I suspect he (still) knows exactly what he's doing ! Theres a big Anchor sticker on the sail so I gues late 80's early 90's Sing Open ? Happy Days K-21

Ooi-Ooi-Ooi !! SDK make sure all the mermaids you are bringing for the gale party are above 18yrs (no mainland china mermaids hoh..). Better behave yourself this time my mariners, otherwise kannah delete and no more party liao ! My sincere apologise to those who can't understand. Anyways may the force from our hearts be with you.
