-----> from meng wang, SIN 0, Team Bluefinz
The wind has not been kind to the Mistral one designs but rather ok for my 12mē. Most of the time I could plane.
Last Friday, I sailed to North Pattaya, about 30 mins port tack sailing in 12-16 kts of wind...f...ing siong man !! I went there with 2 other THA sailors on the new SB 147. I saw and went sailing with POL 10 and POL 16 and this POL World Youth Champ !!! Damn f--ing fast !!! Jibing lay-down on their 12.5mē sails. The POL team are testing for Starboard and NP sails. They are quite ok chaps and I get to see their set ups. All on the Diob. fins (blueish green color) and sailing on the SB 147. I get to meet Sven, the Starboard guru and his continuing prototypes for more testings. When I try to follow POL 10, he was like a bullet on the downwind....can't even smell anything at all. Super fast. It seems that North Pattaya has better wind than Jomtien.
As for my race, I got 2nd overall. 1st was Nyam (10.9 + X186). My results are 2,2,1,3,1,2,16,16. On the 2nd last race, I was leading, but mast broke. Damn suay, so I had to 'game over'. Wind range from 5-14 kts. In lightest and strongest conditions, I was able to pull in 1st otherwise I had to pump and fight hard. The first 4 races were a bit funny. Must beach start, carry board and rig to the water. I was allocated in the downwind of the pack. By the time, I started, a few good ones already sailed out. I have to pump hard (damn tired) to catch up. Also, only the local knows when was the 1 min start cos it was conversed in Thai. Didn't sail against Koo cos he is working for the IMCO World C'ship going on there. But he's hoping to compete in S'pore open.
