Tim, a couple of questions:
if anybody has anything they want to see added to the agenda, who to talk to?
What sort of topics will be discussed? Is this mostly all about racing and stuff?
Cheers

You can talk to me directly. But do bring up only matter related to windsurfing in which you think is within the jurisdiction of the Association. Matters like tar on your board, lack of wind, and beginners in your way is out of our control.

Very intersting indeed. Does WAS works together with WVEC to bring out the best for windsurfing in Singapore? Or is it just for a selected few potential young national windsurfers? If it is for the general public, there is so much more can be done to bring up the level of windsurfing in Singapore. For example, in the past weeks, I have been approached by 3 beginners who are so keen to get on to the next level, wanting to buy a secondhand set of equipment, which is not easy to get given the budget beginners willing to fork out. Maybe the club can start filling this gap by providing some 'intermediate' equipment for those who wish to progress further. This would encourage more people to stay on in windsurfing after the beginner level. There are so much more can be done, but how many of us have heard about WAS or their inspiring mission? For small matters like getting supply of kerosine to clean tar or sufficient sail rack for storage, these are the 'domestic' issues of WVEC. Similrly it should not be Lee SL's task to rescue a dog or a cat.

I bet you guys didn't know that the Windsurfing Association was formed almost 25 years ago. In the old days it was known as the Board Sailing Association of Singapore. It even had its own boat which was used for running races.

Sarfing, I like your ideas but what do you mean by providing "intermediate" windsurfing equipment? There's only really the beginner gear and then the proper gear. Of course, most people initially progress from the beginner (rental) gear to a rag-tag assortment of secondhand, ill-suited, mismatched, falling-apart 10-year-old junk (creating vital liquidity in the secondhand equipment market, I might add). After a couple of years of this, they usually figure out what they really want and splash some cash on a decent setup.
Perhaps the Windsurfing Association could collect some used gear and rent it out to intermediates? Possibly giving them advice on selecting and setting up?
Also, intermediates need to realise that there is almost never going to be a "full set" of equipment available secondhand, which is suitable for them and very cheap. We all buy our equipment piece by piece, and you have to start somewhere. Let's teach them more about equipment, so they can choose a suitable board, then start collecting mast extensions and various other bits and pieces...

Tim, I was out of town, otherwise I wouldn't have missed it for the world. Looking forward to reading a summary here soon.

Yeah, this is a good suggestion to help those interested beginners to start of from the club gear. It is difficult to get hold of full set of equipment, more so for beginners to find the way themselves. Looking at the number of board & sail storage in WV alone, I am sure there are plenty of supply to suit all types. Most of us also have spare mast foot or extension etc not used for years. I am sure if we put all these together there is more than enough to go around. I think all we need is someone keen enough to organise this.
