Attention all kiters. Civil Aviation Authority (CAAS) has put up notices along our beach front prohibiting kite-surfing henceforth. So where to now???

What is the penalty if they are caught?

umm...perhaps they will be photographed and exposed as kitesurfers? The threat of public disgrace can be a powerful deterrent

...where are these notices posted, anyway? Just around PA and the beach toward NSC? Or do they also cover Mana Mana...or Changi?

I wondered at first. But, Denis is a grownup, after all. And because the original post was put up on March 31, we can assume it wasn't an April Fool's Day joke...hey Denis, you've been unusually quiet! What's going on? Has anyone else seen the no-kiting signs?

Someone pointed out to me last weekend that the sign board is put up near the breakwater, near the 'no fishing & no swimming' sign boards, but I did not have a closer look at it. If you stand in front of the WV gate looking out at the sea, it is on you left hand side, where people often picnic under the pine tree shade.
Personally I am glad that there will be no kite surfing in front of the WV zone, I am scared stiff of the kite lines that might one day strangle someone, no matter how skillful or careful one is, accident happens just like that. It is too crowded during weekends with beginners & intermediates (like me). Each time I see the kiters around, it just make me feel very uncomfortable and I have to move far away. Though Ah Lee always laugh and reassured me that he knows what to do to avoid us. However, as I talk to ppl around, we just share the same feeling about safety.
Sorry kiters, for all these grievances. For the good of safety, hope you all can find somewhere good for kiting.

The sign also mentions model aircraft & kites, and according to the CAAS you can’t fly a kite with 5km of the airport so I guess kite surfing falls under the same? A bit of google mapping suggests WVEC is inside 5km of Changi airport boundary but Mana Mana not, but of course if you really want to know you could phone or email CAAS, the contacts are here. Seems like an appropriate time to recycle this.

Seems like an appropriate time to recycle this. You know whose fault that was, don't you? It was the pilot's fault, he came in TOO LOW!

There’s another one at Changi car park 6. As you can see, a lot of thought has been put into the design and placement of the sign so that it doesn’t uglify the unique aspect and character of “coconut grove”

Well, well, well...
...actually I'd be happier if this had been intended to make the beaches (and the water of course) a safer, more enjoyable place for windsurfing -- but it was obviously done with airplane safety in mind.
Oh well, can't complain - the result is the same!
So, back to the original question: Kiters, where to now? To the beach near Mana Mana, perhaps? But, even though MM management is kite-friendly, a sudden influx of kiters might start to give the dinghy, moth and cat sailors the jitters, not to mention the swimmers, kids etc...hmmm...maybe what they really need is their own private beach?

They're still kiting at East Coast! Wow, those guys are such wild, devil-may-care rebels! Living on the edge, pushing the limits, thumbing their noses at authority! ...or maybe they can't read
