You might want to consider a longer fin if you're not planing upwind or as early as you'd like to. Of course that also means that when you're windsurfing in stronger winds, you might have incidences of fin-walking and having your board ride out of control. But a longer fin certainly helps you climb higher upwind.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention...regarding what I said before, the same thing applies when sailing BACK to PA from the Keta beacon area, during NE conditions...it's a good idea to go as close to the shore as you can, as early as you can - even while you're still near NSC - and try to hug the coastline all the way back to PA.  It's ok to catch a gust or two, but be aware of where you are.  If you overshoot the club and start heading for Bedok jetty, you will soon experience the windsurfing equivalent of being "stuck up $h!t creek without a paddle"...

The current is always lighter near the shore as it is more shallow. Going further out might present better wind conditions but the current will always be stronger in deeper waters. Knowing the tide timings will also help you to understand the current and it's strength, and probably help you plan your sailing route.

Havent winsurfed for more than a month and decided to not be a lazy bum and go practice Sun evening. I reached at about 4pm. and there wasn't much wind so I left my harness in the club and went out sailing slow and easy.

It wasnt long before I was told by the lady on the speedboat to come back on shore. Just when i was wading backwards pulling my board upshore in the shallow dirty water, I felt a something cut into the side of my left foot. Initially I thought I stepped on glass but it started swelling and hurts alot more than it should that I started to think I got stung by some fish or something... catfish/stingray??? Now this happened to me before and it wasnt a pleasant experience. Clenching my teeth against the pain I limped with a scowl in my face, washed up and kept my gear. A friendly malay staff asked if I was alrite and upon inspecting the wound affirmed that i got stung. He told me to go to the nearest clinic to get a jab and not to worry about it cos he has seen cases when ppl got stung and continued sailing... that calm me down a bit but didnt take away the #$%$ pain. I took forever to get a cab and got to a clinic to get a jab like they told me... the pain kept me awake the whole nite. Thank god it remained at my foot... I heard stories from the club that it might go up to the calf, hip and groin. Arghh.

Now does this ever happend to u before? or am I really suay to kanna this twice in my few years of sailing at here. And was the pain &^%$?

Never jump straight down from your board during low tide. When wading in the shallows,
trash your feet around before planting them. Any advice will be useful here.

Someone told me that if you get stung often enough, you will build up some kind of immunity to the poison and it will get less painful on subsequent occasions!  Grin

I suppose this means being stung is a good thing...although I haven't  had the pleasure myself..

Unlucky. I’ve never been hit, but last session at Changi I was wading at low tide and twice felt fishy things wriggle away from my feet. I think I’ve exhausted all my nine lives.

I wonder if suicide bombers are told something similar?

With one exception:  yellow rubber boots = cool factor + 200%
