Hmmm...it has come to my attention that the Glory Hound himself is still keen on making this happen, even to the point of trying to get the media interested.

 Roll Eyes

OK, I'll bite...and just so there are no misunderstandings in future, PUT MY NAME DOWN FOR IT, please!  If it really goes ahead, I definitely plan to participate!

 Cheesy

Anybody else interested in tagging along?

Update...like any wind junkie who has been across to Tioman while it's blowing, I was pretty impressed by that wide open, windy stretch of water...but actually sailing across it was little more than a pipe dream.

Then, a while back, there was vague talk on this forum about actually doing it, and His Majesty then decreed that an unspecified  "group of KA Sailors" would make the attempt.

The latest is, The King has decreed that 3 people will attempt the crossing - Himself, Ah Boo (one of our best sailors), and Syamil (from Malaysia).

As far as I know, nobody else is invited to participate.

He's billing it as a way of promoting extreme sports and the inter-cultural camaraderie associated with windsurfing - but of course you have to be his buddy and use his brand of sails if you want to join in, so that's a bit confusing.  Maybe the rest of us would be allowed to go if we were willing to "K." his "A."

But, we can see where he's coming from, I mean where's the glory for him if everyone can go?  Shocked

Also, apparently he's got the lovely miss Leona helping him with publicity, advice, and I don't know what else!  Those two sure have been bonding lately!

**

Anyway, whether or not the weather will cooperate seems to be the  biggest concern, as forecasts are not proving to be very accurate.  Let's all stand behind our man Boo (the Singapore representative) whether they make it or not!   Grin Grin

Calling all windsurfers suffering from wind deprivation...

Like you, I was wallowing in the pits of despair...until I read the latest update on "Bryan Norman" 's Tioman mission!  Now I can't stop laughing - and I suggest you try it too!

This is surely the ultimate publicity stunt - getting newspaper coverage (must've been a slow news week), a free pair of sunnies from the good (and obviously very trusting) people at Oakley, and (perhaps the main point of the exercise) maybe the chance of a few more sales of his KY Sails - all for a windsurfing "achievement" which has not actually happened, nor has any definite timetable for happening, and with the SW reaching an end, may not even be attempted at all this year...or ever!!   Brilliant!  Everybody's Best(est) Pal Norman has delivered again!!  Bravo!

Moral: "Why do it, when you can just talk about it?"

Shouldnt it be Tioman to Mersing ?
The NE will be here soon and then it'll be a stroll in the Park.

I suppose this is an opportune time to ask what happened to this proposed event?

Sadly yes.
Irene and I went to meet Greg who no doubt had a good idea and a lot of enthusaism.
However, the reality of getting money out of a State body in these constrained times (or anytime !!)
was impossible.
A Straits race or just a "Crossing" might work and be some fun..........
In 1990 it took me 10 hours from Pulau Rupat to PD.

Blimey, looks like team free sunglasses are giving it a go tomorrow.

Hot off the press from Team KY Sails blog

Team Oakley is having another go tomorrow. The charts are promising some serious fun.
We're setting off at 8am and should arrive at Mersing close to 11am. All that remains to be done is for our support boat to be settled. Once that's done, we're on our way.

Godspeed to us Smiley
