Just had 7 days in Tarifa with Eddie Murrell and Malaysian expat Larry Chan.
That was 7 straight days on sails from 4.0 to 5.3
There is just something about that place..............

I know.
I really must get with the technology thing.
However, the actual wind can be verified here or on windguru and looks like dying off in a day or 2.
So, that was about 12 days in total of awesome Levante wind.

I noticed that on their chart the wind has been ranging from 4 to 9. I figured that's pretty similar to what we've been getting lately. Except then I realized their chart isn't in knots, it's in Beaufort!!!

Ah yes but I worked in the North Sea and know what a Force12 is.....
Well actually we just managed to get into Kristiansand before it hit.
Force 10 at least on the way there.
I daresay the fuller framed folk like IJ could handle 60 knots but lightweights like me only go to about 50.

Well in my younger days, i have been seen at sunny Camber Sands, with winds touching 60mph. By the time they had reached 66mph for a manic 10 mins, all windsurfers were seen laying on the beach holding on to their gear for dear life.
3.5 sails were the weapons of most, about 2m too big.

But 300mph, is that a serious reading?

At that wind speed only our Norm with his KY speed sails would survive.

I don't think I would oh Fuller Framed One. I've seen what 50 knots is like; I was in that 50 knotter at PA a few years back. I mean, 50 knots is damn eerie man, the screeching noise is almost other-worldly. Thick branches snapped like matches and entire trees were laid flat against the ground left right center. I'll never forget the sight of Lawrence's North rig cartwheeling past us without ever touching the ground until it pretty much disintegrated when it slammed into the wall. Shocked

So, yeah, I'll pass eh.

Time to re-calibrate that wind speed meter that's built into your head, Norman.  Seriously!  Wink

Haha, relax; Denis...I was there during that storm, and have photos to prove it!   It was strong, but 50 knots? NOT!!! Maybe in Dutch knots!!

You just have to remember the Golden Rule: believe half of what you see, and none of what you hear -- and this goes double for the Golden Boy!!

...although...on second thoughts...yeah maybe it was about 50.  The wind was like a bomb going off; I've never felt anything like it.
But my natural reaction was to reduce Normie's claims by 50%, just to be on the safe side...   Wink

Yes.  It happened on 7 Oct 2007.  I left my rig under the Asam tree.  It must have flew over the lamp post and landed in the restaurant.  I was hiding beside the restaurant where the bicycle stand is now.  I was afraid of flying debris and the roof of the restaurant collasping.  My first reaction when I saw the rig was that it look familar.  Than Alamak! it was mine.

I was unable to video the peak of the storm.  This video was taken before and after the storm.

I think what Norman was referring to was late apr or early may 2007. Nea registered 60 knot reading n the zinc roof of the PA restaurant was ripped off
