A series of 6 continental qualification regattas will be the major factor determining which nations qualify for Singapore in August 2010 - full details of the qualification system is published, with further information, on the ISAF's dedicated YOG microsite:

The remaining qualifiers, and Techno 293 continental championships, are:
Oceanic Championship - Largs, AUS. 6th-10th January
Asian Championship - Pattaya, THA. 15th-23rd January
South American Championship - Sao Paulo, BRA. 25th-31st January
North American Championship - Calema, USA. 5th-7th March
African Championship - Sidi Bou Said, TUN. 22nd-28th March

When these kids finally come to Singapore in August 2010 there's going to be no wind!
Welcome to Singapore!!

On the plus side, conditions like, ie. light SW conditions, will give TC's kids a sure legup.  Smiley

I'm not so sure about that.  In such conditions you've got to be able to pump like crazy.  I don't know whether our sailors have that kind of fitness.  TC, are you reading this?

"come to Singapore in August 2010 there's going to be no wind!"

Hi! there, Denis,

Since last year, I've been monitoring the conditions for the period when the YOG2010 event will be held.

It's alternating rainy & sunny days.

Winds are good enough for windsurfing races, but it will be too light for the heavier w/surfers.

With the tidal conditions on the race course, it'd be very frustrating for the heavier w/surfers as they have to really make an effort to maintain their overall positions, until they can find a way to climb up the rankings.

Advantage will be for the YOG2010 w/surfers who'll come over for the Singapore Open, even though the wind blows from the NE.

Europeans have always done well in races, so teams from GBR, ITA, FRA, POL, ISR, ESP, will surely do well when they come over here and overcome the heat and humidity.

Until now the China team is the only ones that's the unknown, but they will be at the Asian & Worlds qualifer.

Regards

I saw the Malaysia girls ( under Datok Leong Soon ) , they sailed very well in Kuantan from 8-15 knots . I think they will be here for Singapore Open as well.

That should be interesting.  I didn't know the Malaysians had revived windsurfing to such a stage.

Apparently, LS made a big donation and bought Techno boards and equipment to kickstart the Techno program in Malaysia.

2-3 years back when the SG National Squad was still relatively young and all of us were on Technos and 1-designs up in Penang, LS came round and showed some Malaysian coaches and officials our Techno boards. I recall him saying that he bought some boards to start the program and the rest, they say, is history.

The girls have been under him for only 5 months but already kicking some ass.
From what i heard there are already around 11 techno boards in Langkawi, soon to be distributed to sailing clubs all around Malaysia. It will be a major kickstart.
