The rumours about a ”Singapore Open” (Formula) event around Xmas have spread to icy Denmark !

But when exactly will it take place ?

Is there any reason for bringing any other gear than just the widest (SB186/158) and biggest (Nitro 4 or 5 ~12,5 m2)  ???

I know nearby Mana Mana can be a delicious slalom / Bump & Jump spot when the monsoon blows, but this time I’m only interested in the “average conditions” in SG at the time of the event…

I dont know myself if there is a formula event as such at Christmas, there is normally the Singapore open which has one design and shortboard classes. I am certain someone will answer this for you
Regarding sail, difficult one to say, i am 95Kg and 2 years ago in the N.E struggled with a 9.3 on a formula for many days. The wind can be rather light or rather strong. Seeing how gear has moved on, 12.5/9.8 might be a good 2 sail choice.

Hi Jens,

It will be great if u and your fellow 'Icemen' can take part in the S'pore Open from 28th till 31st December 2003.

Wind varies, so it will be good from 9.8m² till 12+m² range. SB 158/186 will do.

It will be a blast for sure.

As for ManaMana conditions, FW gears are not encouraged.

C u soon
Happy sailing !

Jens,

knowing your size and sailing ability you would need a fairly wide formula quiver, that time of year can see anything from 6 knots crap to high 20s. Monsoon is most consistent in January, december is a gamble. So something like 12, 10.5, 9.3  or 11.5/9.8 would do you fine, with 2 fins (70 wide chord thick profile, 70 thin profile or a 68).

Meng,

28-> 31 of Dec. ?! Excellent! Suites me perfectly, I sense the 31st is going to be a big double celebration (DEN-272 on the podium lol + birthday party ;-)

Sukdev,

Just sold my 9,3 still got a 10,4 Nitro II left in the truck, and that I can easily handle at 20 knots DK flat water… Knowing that the tropical wind feels much lighter, and hence less powered up than our cold Scandinavian winds, I might have luck with that as the smallest sail.

I’m a bit in question about the +12 sail. Do you think that the Nitro 5’s is going to be available that early? Or will I have to settle with a new N4 ?

Delivery to Denmark is generally something we only dream about before the “official” Race season starts in May, but maybe Bluefinz has better ties to Gaastra than our national distributor…

Jens yes 10.4 as your only sail is survivable easily. If i dont get my fitness back thats what i'll probably be on.

I dont have a firm schedule for N5, but usually the first sails leave the factory end feb early march so you may have to go for N4..email me directly for info on that, we probably can work something out.

You'll get to test the 158 though, I should have the first formula 158s very soon.

Do you still remember what its like to sail in shorts only?

Hello Mr. Warren,

Nice to know that the “old butcher” is still in touch with the latest fashion trends….

You definitely saved my day back in the AMSLAM 2000 when I borrowed your 7,8 GTX for the speed dash…thought you were on AHD but it seems that the new Dufor made the blue ones obsolete…

I’ll consider it seriously. might even get a matching tattoo!

The other option could be a brand new 11,5 N4 and F158 bought in DK/SG…Got some equipment sponsoring support but pt. lack financing for flight overweight! (KLM wants a bleeding 60 SGD per kilo one way !  )

See you

Jens, email me, might be able to help on the air freight bit...we've done enough of it to know costs to almost any point on the globe.
