What qualifies someone as a Despo?
-If you sail out far from shore and stay there a long time "to wait for a storm"...
-If you keep buying bigger and bigger equipment in order to get planing in less and less wind....
-If you rig up and spend all afternoon waiting, even though the chances of wind that day are <0.001%...
-If you often get stranded outside in offshore storms...
-If you are usually the first one out and the last one back...
-If your work or family life suffers because of the amount of time you spend waiting for wind...
...you may be a despo.
Nominations are now open for the 1st annual Singapore's Biggest Despo contest.
Let's get the ball rolling! Nominations, please!

Good suggestion, Norman! For 1st prize, I am willing to donate a battery-powered mini fan, so the ultimate despo can always get a little bit of wind.
On second thought, there's no need for prizes; this is all about prestige.
Don't be concerned about embarrassing people; the one thing the real despos all have in common is they have no shame!
I hereby nominate Teochew Joe, Cai and William - shameless desperadoes all. Any more candidates?

I wish...but I think I'm no longer eligible! GROUNDS FOR DISQUALIFICATION: If... -you have downsized your equipment... -you have knowingly and wilfully stayed home on a day when there was a good chance of wind... -you have gone to the club, heard the words "got chance", but decided not to rig up... ...you might not be a despo.

We all must be so BORED by these few weeks of NO WIND condition. If now wind starts to pick up like in NE, nobody would be bothered to write or read on this site

I waited for good 2 hours at the beach today. It was all cloudy so I anticipated a storm, plus last few days has been amazingly windy. Then I saw white caps, wind starts blowing, I ran with my gear to water, beach start in straps, plane, jibe, then the wind just died completely. LOL
oh wait, i need Sg citizenship to be in this thread right? how to apply? ;p

Come on Lat...IMO Norman is no despo. He's the exact opposite - he's a Wind Princess. If it's not just perfect, he won't even bother. Syamil, all nationalities are welcome! If you live somewhere windy but still act like a despo, imagine how you'd be if you lived in Singapore! Anyway, just to recap, the list of candidates so far reads as follows: Me(Andrew), Daniel, Norman, Cai, Teochew Joe, William, Syamil (assuming he is nominating himself)... More nominations: Ben Jr Simon Kyo ...and who else?

There's this one Japanese dude, surfs a wavey set-up, always goes out even in 2 knots or less to do helicopter tacks inside the bay. This guy has despoism down to an art form. He beats us all hands down. I salute him.

Despo could mean someone coming down everyweek or at least the other week. I hv been doing that since 1996 but looking around at PA, I could see others longer than me still doing the same :
Billy , Joshua , Chubby , Dennis Wee
I m sure there will be some others from Europa too.
