good sparring with Penang Mafia and Levi..

now it's 1350 hrs, it is super sunny blue sky and wind is building up as i'm typing this.
looks good for more downhaul and outhaul condition than y'day.

wind finally came around 3pm, started at 10 kts, then built up till 18 kts (constant between 12-18 kts)
sailed 2.5 hrs, local shortboarders were on 7.5m.

hope the wind stays thru out this week.

Can someone advice what is the recommended sail size + board size for the raceboard category. Raceboard & Formula is separated by different category right?

Thanks

RB - any board with daggerboard with max sail size = 7.5m

Formula - max 100cm width, max 70cm fin and max 12.5m sail

when r u coming up to Penang, good wind here

unfortunately, the wind is taking a break today.
sky is overcast and hints of rain in the afternoon.

the dark clouds from Butterworth side spoiled the build up.

in the meantime, we are planning for a swim and catching up on our shopping....

Had a good run yesterday. Wind was OK, at least can get me plane on 7.4. Wish I have a bigger sail.

Launching from the bay is a bit tricky. Used my sinky 111, ended up spending good 15 minutes trying to pass the shifty & windless area. Bad decision. Sad

Hope today's marathon gonna be fun. A little excited, can't wait to pop the cherry hehe.. Smiley

wind failed to blow for Formula in Marathon, only the raceboards and other dinghy classes were out.

hope the rain clouds clear for a good weekend of course racing

I'd imagine today the formula guys are having great time in the race. Towards the afternoon the wind blows very strongly. Crazy!

As for me... Went out when the wind wasn't even enough to get me planing on my small 7.4m sail, let alone going upwind. It was 10 miles of drifting down the strong currents Sad Sad Sad  Should've known but was determined to make it to the race. By the time the wind picks up & I finally I could go back upwind the race is already almost over. Pathetic. Oh well..No pain, no gain, no regrets.

the wind compensated the friday's light wind condition...
truly Penang wind made ideal condition for Formula and other sailing activities.

3 races were held on the sunny sat.

1st race was held in 8-10 kts

2nd race onwards, the wind went up to 16 kts.

3rd race, wind was blowing between 12-19 kts.

by then the really wind finally came in over 20 kts (max 25 kts gust, i think).
OD decided to cancel the 4th race as many sailors had decided to return to shore due to strong wind and big waves.

dinner BBQ was held on Leong Soon's family holiday bunglow on Penang hill overlooking the whole of Penang city, cool and relaxing.
we had to take 4WD stormtroopers to climb super steep slopes.

provisonal result ;

Koo , 1-1-1
Kai , 2,3,2
Meng , 4,2,3
Leong Soon , 2,4,4

pj, typed at 4am cos we came down from Penang hill quite late lah.... ; )

formula fleet is about 10 sailors.

3 races were held on sun.

wind blew around 14-18kts, super choppy and big swells.
formula boards were 'ballet' jumping during upwind legs.

final results (before 1 disgards);

Koo, 1,1,1,1,1,1
Kai, 2,4,2,1,2,DNF
Leong Soon, 3,2,DSQ,5,3,3
Meng, 4,3,3,4,4,2

all are pretty sun-burnt with aching palms...

Even though it was 14-18 knots e current and waves made it as though it was only 8-10 knots? Damn irritating when we went downwind close to the mini island.. Caught afew rubbish during e race.. But overall good and fun trip..
