Hi Jinxed
You may want to think a little more before taking on good winds 15 knots plus.

Once you enjoy 15 knots plus winds and waves, you won't want to sail in less. You will enjoy it too, all it takes is more water time on responsive boards with smaller sails.

After that life becomes incomplete untill the next session.

We spent the last few years just waiting for the NE to kick in.

Cheers

Peter

would want to talk to them to learn some tricks of the trade.

can you all help to chip in some names for me to follow-up. i dont mind whether they sail at PA or PF.

just wait till NE, you sail out and see who are those strong wind sailors sailing near the Padang Buoy, or near the.

just missed sailing along that stretch of open land after the Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal.

Respect to Aik Haw of his ordeal during the last NE.

‘Jinx’, with respect to the topic of this thread, I noticed during last NE season that there was a ‘gang’ of sailors from PA that sometimes loaded up a lorry with windsurfing gear and drove it to Changi Beach. If you have your gear at PA, find them and ask them to bring your gear too.

At Changi it is easy to be brave in the strong wind, since you have land to drift to in case something goes wrong. During NE at Changi, the wind is often in the 11-15knt range, and seldom at 15+. Getting used to these conditions will be a great step in the direction of mastering the SE storms. In addition, at Changi everybody is sailing/launching in the same area, so it is easy to get in contact with all the sailors.

Some other comments related to regional conditions:
I used to sail in conditions similar to those mentioned by ‘Ben’ in his earlier post (I mainly sailed in Sweden when wind was 20+knt and used 55cm wave/B&J board with 3.0-5.0).

I then moved from Sweden to Singapore in early 90ties, and stopped sailing for 10+ years (back then I considered the wind conditions in the region as useless). During the past few years I have re-discovered windsurfing again. Now I’m using 60cm wave/free board with 5.7-6.7. This year I logged my ‘productive’ session (‘productive’ = on plane, wind of about 11knt or more). To my surprise, I find that I have sailed 80+ hours since January. About 70 of the hours were from 20 days of sailing during the last NE Jan-Mar (average of 3.5h/sailing-day).

I never used to keep statistics when sailing back in Sweden, but I seriously doubt that I ever got close to 80h of productive sailing for one season even though we sometimes sailed from 05:00 to 20:00 when the conditions were good (such days were rare, but ‘F2’s post brings back nice memories).

I now find that with modern 6.7 equipment, I can enjoy a good 11-14knt day as much as I used to enjoy a 5.0 day back then in 20-25knt.  And on top of it all, no need for wetsuit and frozen fingers/toes, so considering it all, conditions are not too bad here in the region.
