Hello to all in this forum, just join the forum.

Some background: Attended my basic windsurfing course some 15 years ago at ECSC. Also work part-time there for 1 years or so. So basically most skill are aquired there. So I have some active surfing for 2 years. Last time I surf some 10 years ago I was trying to master fast tack with much fustration. The equipment I use then is those rental stuff, heavy and soft sail, and dun even dare to try water start with that kind of equipment. Wind condition is not always favourable when you have rental board and simply cannot wait out for the weather.

Now I want to start on the sport again, so need some advise as:
1. Can I do rental @ PA without any certification from PA? Or will I be asked to attend a Level 1 class?
2. I would like to attend Level 2 but would like to know if they teach tricks like fast tack, water start and basic jump? Again do I need level 1 from PA for this class.

Finally, it comes to equipment, since I never own any, I like to own 1 now, preferably a beginner shortboard, used, until I figure what I can upgrade to at a later time. Of course I have never been on a short board. So I cannot know if I will do well with short board. I only get wet if I try to learn fast tack on the long board, curve jibe already mastered. Also these hard sail, what size should i consider for Singapore, is 6m good enuf? I can sit and wait for wind...

Also I'm now in New Caledonia, a great place to surf and kite. You think it is good to buy the used gear here or Singapore? I will be back Nov.

Thanks

Dear Nakazoru,

Nice to hear your interest in windsurfing still remains after all these years.
On your earlier questions:

1. Can I do rental @ PA without any certification from PA? Or will I be asked to attend a Level 1 class?

Unfortunately, PA do require certification for rental due to safety. If not, you will have to attend their level one class.

2. I would like to attend Level 2 but would like to know if they teach tricks like fast tack, water start and basic jump? Again do I need level 1 from PA for this class.

Unfortunately again, PA does not conduct level 2 (as far as I understand). In either case, the local conditions do not normally permits this type of techniques/ skills to be taught on a regular basis. And yes, I will think the level 1 certification is required assuming PA does conduct lessons with fast tack, water start and basic jumps.

In anycase, welcome back in Nov!  Smiley

Hi Windward;

Windsurfing is always in my blood, just that work and family has taken its toll.

Can I have use my old ECSC card even it is expired long time ago if I can find it? Or is there some proficiency test that I can take? You know how difficult it is to re-sit in a beginner class lecture.

If I own my own equipment, do I need cerification to store or us PA facilities? Can i just drop in to PA to get some use gears.

Cheers

Hi Nakazoru,

You do not need to have certification in order to store your equipment or use PA facilities. But you will need to sign up as a PA member first before you can do that. Storage fees are definitely one of the cheapest in Singapore at PA. Come down to the club and check with the counter staff if you have the time.. Wink

Hi BlackHawk;

Do you mean that I need to join "PASSION CARD & WATER VENTURE BUNDLED MEMBERSHIP" before heading down to East Coast Water Venture?

Hi Nakazoru,

I am not sure if the "Passion Card & bundled membership" qualify you as a member with PA Water Venture. You may wish to check with the friendly staffs at the PA Water Venture (East Coast) and I think they will be most willing to assist you to apply for a membership. Once you have the membership, you can store your equipments (subject to slots availability) and use the facilities there. .

See you on the water soon !!   Wink
