Ok, i'll check with management first but any sail rig to recommend? Anyway, heard about the BIC Techno 293. Is it the new Mistral Prodigy equivalent?

The Bic Techno is an ISAF race class for youth. The Youth Squad at NSC use it for training and racing. There are no used boards for sale here so if you want one you will have to buy a new one.
As for rig, look around for something around 6 sqm without cambers. Cambers are a nuisance and are used by sophisticated sailors who want performance. Oh, by the way, you do not "progress" from a soft sail to a fully-battened sail. Soft sails are difficult to control in strong winds and beginners should not be made to use them.

The techno is a good board in strong winds.. But in our ever light wind condition its a lion that is quite under utilized.. Nevertheless good enough for beginners to learn on.. But if you wanna do full fledge racing and all.. Mistral One Design would be the better board to develop on..

As long if there is a daggerboard, it will be good to start with but if you have the options or the budget for a new board, then look for a real Loooooong board . Let's look at 2 boards from Starboard, Both have daggerboard but they are very different in nature.  Starboard START M Start : Very stable , provide a good and stable platform for beginner, but because of it's wide width 95cm, it's lacking the length for it to glide forward. A progressive will grow out of the board in 2 mth. IMO BIC is consider a hybrid board ( shortboard with added daggerboard ) and comes alive only above 10knots .  Starboard PHANTOM 320 For progressive and light wind sailing, Look for board length at least 300cm+ width less than 80cm, some boards that fit into this class will be Phantom, RIO, OneDesign, Kona, Prodigy ..... These board will have good (fast) forward tracking ability and be used in light wind 2knts up. Having TOW will built up the necessary skills later. |

The SB Phantom 320 is very nice in stronger winds.. But the daggerboard would require a certain skill to get it up and down..

As i was looking at the new mistral board.. http://www.mistral.com/public/content/windsurfing/windsurfboards/equipe_iii_rd/index_eng.html I took a peek at the mistral one design summary Now i totally agree with this " The One Design will ensure Mistral is first to the windward mark at every light wind regatta around the world " Anyway.. Which longboard is better.. I think we would soon know in the Raceboard worlds.. Last year Phantom 380 took the No 1 spot.. |

The new Mistral is a welcome addition, time will tell about it's performance.
The Phantom proberbly will win the worlds as Starboard normally ensures that most of the best sailors are equiped with one!
But at the end of the day, the best sailor would win on any of these boards.
Opinion at last worlds was:
Fastest in light wind: Exocet Warp-X then Phantom then Equipe 2
Middle winds: Warp-X = Phantom = Equipe 2
Strong winds: Phantom then Equipe then Warp-X
The old Mega Cat is also still competitive and so is the 380 F2
Maybe the Equipe 3 will make an appearance, so far its just a picture.
All are useless in Singapore as everyone prefers to sit on the beach and wait for the bi-monthly 10 min shortboard blast.

At least for a start , PA & TWS have organized a raceboard class in this yr windsurf event. We see Richard and ex-sailor Logan ( hope I got his name correct ) sailing. I m sure there are more out there give up windsurfing because all brands have forgotten abt their needs . In 2-3 yrs, I believe there will be a change.

you wont be able to use ur own sail on club board
blame it on e guys who did it b4, they broke e track, so no more personal sails on club board
practice with e 5M(orange color), its a gd size
