Haha, better to take the difficult route, than do nothing at all.

Right now, I'm in Ngee Ann Poly, Year 2. There isn't a windsurfing club in NP, cos it closed down about 2 years ago. CCA dept not willing to revive it, already spoke with them (cos I was trying to claim points for taking the licensing).

That's too bad.  Did they give a reason?  Perhaps they want to focus on "real" sports, where you run around chasing a little ball all day?

Hi Imp,

Good thing that you carry on despite the school not supporting the sport.
If you are interested and keen to re-start windsurfing as a CCA/Club in your poly,
I will be glad to share some experience on my Uni days with you, esp. dealing with the sch admin  Wink

Good winds to all!

Ooh, sorry about the long disappearance.

The reason cited by deportmant i/c of CCAs for not reviving the club is -- there was once a windsurfing/windsports CCA, but it died out due to insufficient membership. As such, the club was closed down. When I approached them earlier in the semester, I was given that explanation and refused permission to restart the club. Personally, I thought it was a little illogical to dismiss my offer on the basis that someone else failed... But, what to do? I've already tried reasoning with the officer i/c but she was completely reluctant.

Lol!

Obviously, you should have been directing your efforts towards something related to either football, the Formula One race, or the Singapore Flyer...

As your school is not prepared to help, I suggest you join the WORK TO SAIL programme, which the rest of us are already on...

I'm used to be from Ngee ann poly til 1999 too, when I was there I asked the school if they had any sailing club. Non actually but they do have Lasers and some beginner windsurfing eqpt, they used to be at the windsurfing club near the lagoon. Not too sure where they are since it closed down. Did a fair bit of laser sailing and ended being addicted to windsurfing, heh heh!

Lol, b_mouz, I'm actually in sailing right now (: It's great fun, but pretty expensive! SDAR isn't very supportive though, as we haven't been bringing back medals.

On the bright side, at least the gear I've purchased so far (i.e. life jacket, rashguard) can be used for windsurfing too! Yay, value for money!

What's the work to sail programme?

Btw, happy national day everyone!

Hi thatimp,

It's alway the egg or chicken story when it comes to funding, even at International Level. Most of us self support / fund our passion.  We either seek equipment or personal sponsorship, go on no-pay leave, train very hard for a chance to fullfil our dreams and to represent the Country.

When there is funding, usually expectations is far too great it becomes better to just self-fund and enjoy the sport out of passion.

Do your very best, when results shows you'll be notice and hopefully get funded.

Cheers
