Hi! I was wondering if it is possible to windsurf year round in singapore? I heard that monsoon seasons are the best, but is it reasonable to think that with a formula and a 10/11m sail one can windsurf almost every week end? thank for letting me know, I am a die hard windsurfer leaving in the uk and in dire need of more water time ;-)

Heh heh heh...
Hi Matt,
Yes, if you have the gear you mentioned you should be able to get planing for an hour or two almost every weekend on average, although you may spend a bit of time waiting for the fickle wind to pick up.
And you might want to have a smaller set, maybe a freeride or slalom board and 7-8m sail, because we do get slightly stronger winds from time to time.

Is there a bit of irony in your comments? :-) I have been managing my own expectations down... but i saw a few videos posted by Lawrence, and it looks quite awsome. I do have a hypersonic (the first model) with a 7m and a 9m. I weight 65kg so usually enough to get going in sub 10 knots. But if the wind is lighter, i ll get a full blown formula set to have more water time. Do you guys manage to windsurf a lot or is it more during monsoon seasons? how big would you say the windsurfing coimmunity is? 40-50 harcore windsurfers?
I am not posted there yet, but my wife in singaporean, so... :-)

Maybe below 80 regulars every weekend. Abt 8-10 on formulas. Based on yr 65Kg on 11m/formula setup. We will need you to plane before we stand a chance to go. See you around.

If you want to store your gear at the club (PA), you'd better get your name on the waiting list!!

Long waiting list? how does it worK? do you guys keep your equipment with you or do you leave it at the club? Also, I will most likely be buying a board and a sale. Are most brands available? I heard prices are lower than in Europe, is that true?

We store our gear at the club. There are racks for boards, lofts for hanging rigged sails, and equipment washing areas with hoses. Rolled-up sails, masts, booms, etc can be stored with your board. There is always a lot of demand for limited space. New racks and sail lofts have been added recently, but I'm not sure about the availability situation. You should probably contact the club before you come. The earlier the better. Here's their website: http://www.water-venture.org.sg/index.htmlI can't see a phone number or email address for the windsurf club on the website. Maybe I'm going blind...but anyway, could somebody please post them here? Anything else you want to know, just ask. BTW there was no wind this weekend.

Singapore is cheaper! But if I were you I'd try to bring some exotic gear from Europe, as this will be a great conversation-starter.

Ye Gods ! A Hyper with a 7.0 and a 9.0 ? 65 kgs ? Does Superman wear his knickers ouside his tights ? A marriage made in heaven I'd say.....perfect kit for S'pore. No need to buy anything else. I have the same but sail in Kuantan where of course its always slightly windier than down there and I'm 80 ish kgs. Oh alright then, I've just picked up a Formula......... You wont need one though because you can simpy put a 10.0 on the Hyper !!
