Sukhdev San,

Your web site is like Zen design. I like your board picture very much. Can you tell what camera you use & set. I think this picture is like art, the picture and the board. I want to take picture of all my board to keep so if you can give me tip it is good.

PS this is favorite picture for me. Because the picture and the board both are look very good.

Hi Nami San,

thanks for your remarks, I like that picture too, looks a bit surreal!

I use the following for all the board pictures:
Nikon D100 with Nikkor AFS24-85mm lens.
At the moment I'm using the standard flash (not very good) but will be getting the SB80 speedlight flash, also a fisheye lens.

For the sailing shots I mainly use the Nikkor AF VR ZOOM 80-400mm lens.

I use the program mode mostly, and rarely play around with speed/f settings as the p mode is so good. I'm looking at the D2H .. now thats some digital SLR!

hope this helps, let me know if you need to know anything more specific.

Hi Sukhdev,

I own countless top end cameras - both film and digital. Don't waste your money on the D2H. It's just feature rich but offer little in resolution quality.

Canon introduced the EOS 300D recently. At $999 with a zoom lens and $899 without one, it's a pretty awesome deal, if you want a digital SLR.

Others are certain to follow into the price competition. Market share is being made right now: the money is not in selling the camera bodies, but in selling lenses & in the future sales of improved bodies (a few generations after this one).

Once you have a nice set of lenses, you are less likely to change brands.

My cameras: an aging Nikon Coolpix 990 (still takes some pretty reasonable photos, but not comparable to recent DSLRs) and a Canon A40 with a waterproof enclosure (for windsurfing shots). On the water windsurfing photography is a nice challenge: I'm learning every time I do it.

Hey Juri nice to see you here. thanks for the mail on the measurement, it got hidden under piles of other stuff and i only recently noticed it..you are right btw.

Mike i partly picked nikon cos 2 other buddies here own the same camera so exchanging experiences etc is easy. I dont think you can go wrong with either the canon or nikon; i must say i'm no expert on cameras. i love doing photography but i dont have the inclination or time to really dig into the fine details of each model..perhaps someone else could help comment?

the nikkor VR 80-400 lens is awesome though if you use the vibration reduction mode alot it eats up battery. next on the list is a battery pack, fisheye and better flash.

if only i can figure out how to take pictures and race..last AWT i had to drop out of racing to take at least some racing shots..bummer...

and if there is a hobby that eats up $ in accessories worse than windsurfing does its got to be photography.

Hello Yamashita-san,

Are you the famous Nat'Geo professional photographer. I like you pictures very very much. For me, I think that a good picture tells alot about the camera man or photographer. Soory for this, I'm am not great photographer but i'm a critic. Some of the pictures posted here not very good and tells alot about the photographer with expensive camera and lenses. Some pictures if taken by good photographer using disposable camera can stiill produce better result photos. in the end of it, it is the camera man not the camera right? Yamashita san I sincerley bow to you. Soory my english command not very the good, but hope it is still acceptable to the people here. Good Bye and hello again sometime.

There are some common functions for photographs:

- mementos
- art
- record of an event

A photograph can be good even if it performs only one of those functions. Even a technically bad photo can be good.

Very few, if any, of my windsurfing photos really work as art. They usually work pretty well as mementos for those who were there, so that's always a good reason to take the camera with me when I go sailing: a good day is worth remembering.

The last type of photo helps people improve their technique. They can see their stance and they may be able to see how they jibe or jump or perform a trick. Even a failed trick is worth photographing (or filming into a live clip!), because the photos may hold the key to success in the future.

Critics (of any kind) should remember this when they view photos.

The post from Bar Gay Roh is rude, irrelavant and a nuisance. I'm closing this thread and submitting a formal complaint to Singnet (Bar Gay Roh is a Singnet user). Likewise, a complaint will be submitted for the so called  Kanebe.

From now on any post making any allusions to vulgar terms in hokkien etc or deemed to be nuisance postings will be submitted to the respective ISPs without fail.

If you are posting from Singapore, bear this fact in mind; unlike many other places, everything that applies to normal discourse applies to the internet too in legal terms. You can and will be held liable for any act of nuisance or libel or slander.

If anyone is not comfortable with this forum policy I would suggest you stay away from this forum as I intend to go through with my complaint to Singnet.
