Hey guys

I see there has been so many discussions about this for a month now..has anything been done yet?? Instead of just talking in this forum, will these opinions be put across to the NSA looking after us? If so, then I think they ain't doing anything at all..

Back to the topic posted by sukhdev, do we need an organisation to represent the windsurfers? I think the windsurfers have made their voices heard, but this ain't loud enough.. It is a fact that windsurfing is dying in Singapore! Look at the last few races, the number of entries was miserable! We need a bigger pool for selections and send the good ones overseas. NE MonsoON has made a good suggestion to have our own NSA where SSC will look after our interest directly rather than to wait for SSF to do something.

Cheers to KY, LT, KS & many others who are still making the efforts to keep this sport ongoing. But it seems like its always the same old guys who are doing the job to keep this sport alive..Won't it will be great to have the young ones to join in and understand the hardship these guys has put across for the Windsurfing community? The windsurfing family has to gather forces to make something happen.

We are all here for the passion in the sport..Do not let the passion die away...wat happen to all the fun??

There is a fair bit happening; its not as bleak as it seems.

On the SSF, Ben Goh has pulled together everyone involved from the clubs (PF, PA, Safra), the shops (BF,CW,TWS), the MOE folks etc. He's also done a good job in highlighting the need to build up our formula fleet.

One other very laudable effort that is not well known is the NSC running a sports rehab program for people from SANA (Singapore Anti Narcotic Assoc). I can't think of a better way to introduce people to a new direction in life than via our great sport. NSC is also doing a kids program.

Lastly BSAS has just had its AGM. Best thing is the committee is 90% youngsters with just 3 old farts (lemmy, kim yeow and me). We are actively looking at what can be done for the larger community beyond organizing racing events only.

We need more people involved, more hands willing to help and just more passion. I think everyone involved at the organization end feels that we need an inclusive approach..IMCO, Formula, Slalom, general coaching..all need emphasis.

So step forward, lend a hand.

Start by joining BSAS, the more voices we have the more we can represent with strength and conviction.

You want to see passion? dedication? look at the  youngsters on IMCO. A few days ago I dropped by PF one afternoon. One of them comes tearing in still in his school uniform. Hardly any wind. Does it bother him? No. He gets rigged and is out on the water pumping. If we had a 100 youngsters like this, wouldnt the Asian championships for most classes be back in Singapore as they used to be during the time of Kelly Chan and Ramli Salleh?

I hope we find a way to keep them going on and on..the new Youth Formula class would be perfect for them.

Right now we are wrestling with what we can bring to the general windsurfing population in singapore. But do your bit. Join up. Criticize constructively, and then be willing to lend a hand to fix whatever you have highlighted. We have so many talented and highly qualified people windsurfing, surely we can go much further!

Hi Sukhdev

I applaud the efforts you and the guys have put in for the Windsurfing scene. It was kind of NSC to bring in the SANA kids to do windsurfing, such efforts are commendable..but is SSF able to do more for the Windsurfing committee?? Their focus seems to be on Dinghy Sailing most of the time..Therefore it seems like a brilliant idea to have our own NSA. All clubs can send in one or two representatives to sit in the committee. This will in turn become an organisation that represents us..an identity!

Yes, we need more windsurfers with the passion for the sport to train full time..However, this is hard to come by..Unfortunately, the kids are either concerned with academic studies while the grown ups will worry for their livelihood. It might take a while longer to churn more potential national windsurfers!

It is sad to see that windsurfing is no longer as popular as it used to be in the 80s..I wish for this sport can be recognised just as equally as other sports in Singapore and hope my comments & suggestions will help to contribute ideas to the community.

I will help whenever I can..
