penang mafia is doing serious training.

hired top Thai sailors as sparring partners.
orders from penang mafia accounted 50% of debochiet's profit for FY2006.

as for JB boys, they look good in Howie photos  & after that, get discouraged, "that's my last race, i swear !!!" i heard it too often..

penang open is still on, getting 10+ kts now.
looks like another epic sailing.

open to all sailors

a marathon race and 4 formula course races were held over the last weekend which started on Friday.

prior to the event, the 2 days of training were held in 14-25 kts.
Penang mafia and Koo a.k.a 'the team', were blazing the Tg Bungah sea side by side. the rest had to keep pace with 'the team'.

marathon was held in gusty 6-12 kts of wind. the dinghies were sailing much faster than Formulas and raceboards.
luckily the wind picked up later, and most of us managed to finish. Marathon results ;
1. Kai (THA)
2. Meng (SIN)
3. Levi (MAS)

4 course racing were held on Sat. 1st race was a prelude to the rest of the races.
wind came in at 8-12 kts, some nice racing initailly, later on in 2nd race onwards, the wind picked up a few gears.
many of us set or trimmed our sails with 'minimum' downhaul and suffered in race 2,3 & 4. 14-18+ kts filled the course. by race 4, half of the fleet scored a 'DNS'.
Sunday failed to blow but the tide current was moving like 3-5 kts. most of us couldn't even make it to the starting boat. no race was held due to lack wind and strong current.

it's heartening to see new racers like John (AUS)and Gary (USA) took part in the race. they managed to notch up a few good results despite sailing on 11.5mē and 11.9mē.

Final results ;
1. Ek (THA)
2. Koo (THA)
3. Meng (SIN)
4. Levi (MAS)
5. Leong Soon (MAS)
6. Kai (THA)
7. John Cray (AUS)
8. Kenny Heng (MAS)

already, 2008 trip is been planned.

happy sailing
