Hi Sukhdev,

I have got myself a R13H on your recomendation for my 147, however my largest sail is only 11m and I weigh 85kgs. How long would I be able to keep the R13H in the water for? eg to what wind strength? Do you then change to a 70m or do you just change down to a smaller fin. In my case I have the original 147 fin and also a R14M 76cm

My Quiver is 11m 9.8m 8.7m

Cheers Allan

Allan, I tend to pretty much leave the fin in once i match it right; I've used the r13 up to 9.3 conditions on the 147, no problems with lift. I did try the 66 r13, I'd only use that in well over 20, in rough water or if i'm purely doing reaching. If you are sailing more in the higher teens than in light wind you might want to try shifting the rear straps forward. The 70h shd be no problem with both the 11 and 9.8.

Hi Sukdev

How long do you need to wait for a Deboichet custom fin ? I intend to buy one.  Do they fit well with Mike lab Board like the Tectonics ? Anything tpo watch out for.

Thanks

Timothy

Tim, 5 months or so? Its kind of hard to get on the queue even, one person I know emailed them with no response so far. Boogie has a waiting list about the same length too; hopefully I'll get a Fox70 and Echo68 soon.

Fitting is no problem, even if any fins don't its trivial to shim/sand as necessary, or you can apply soap before inserting.

Email me directly, I may have some alternate suggestions that might work for you.

Allan,

managed to get a test of the R13H 66cm on the 147 today; sail was a 9.3 GTX. Very gusty wind conditions ranging from crap to ohmygod. Fin worked very well, the difference in ease of sailing downwind and reaching over the 70 in 9.3 conditions is very noticeable. Upwind not much is lost in these windy conditions, the control gain is worth the angle lost.

Hi Sukhdev,

I have purchased a R13 70 H for my 147, it felt good but I did suffer from spin out occasionally with the fin, I reckon pusing to hard, how did you find the R1370M?? in the 147??

Or what advantages did you find the Hard over the Med??

Allan, the hard/medium thing seems to be fairly sailor preference dependent, not just board & conditions. Re spinout, where have you set your rear footstraps? Re difference between M and H, the 147 just feels better with a stiff fin to me. I'd look to trim settings, the debs take tremendous foot pressure without spinning out.

I've got problems with spin-out too. Tested drake 700 and R12 H. Rear straps on midle  and front at rear-out pos. Mast midle+2cm. I'm 182cm 85kg. Sails RS2 9.8 and 11.0.
Any ideas?
Thanks, Alberto

Thats pretty similar to my setup (we are about same ht/wt), except my front straps are max front and mast foot is further forward. Spinout happens when the fin is overloaded, so it could be a combination of things. Most likely culprits are too much weight on the back leg & this can be due to a combination of set ups; rig setting, harness line, boom height. I'd suggest starting with getting the sail lean and smooth and then playing with harness line position and then boom height. You want to hang your weight off the boom more rather than load your legs. I've used down to a 62cm on the 147 for testing without spinout.

check http://mytrims.com

Already 10 session reports with the F147 in there.

Get registered.
Then do a search with settings:
[Boardbrand] = Starboard.
and
[Genre] = Race.

There's also a number of forums on that site where you can post your questions. Look at what racers already registered, you'll probably recognise some familiar names...

been testing again. you were right, too much load on legs probably due to the too long harnes lines. I was using 32-35 cm and saw a few photos of gonzalo. (boom to my eyes). I will try 30 and shorter.
thanks, alberto
