Hi,I'm really new in the sport. Grin Just had my lessons actually but am having difficulty just lifting the sail!  Embarrassed Gets a bit frustrating cause everytime the sail falls i have to try really hard to lift it again. I know i have to clear the water off the sail first but even doing that is a lil difficult. Undecided Anyone have similar problem or ways to overcome it.

hi,

what kind of rig r u using ?
with a proper technique of uphauling the rig, u will find it easier.
u can approach many of the experienced windsurfers for tips.
another way is to purchase a easy-uphaul rope for better assist.

uphauling is part of the fun.  Grin

happy sailing

some personal tips on uphauling on moderate to high wind speed. intermediate or advance players can jolly water start themselves.

1) adjust yourself, board and sail to the best position to uphaul.

2) back facing wind, board perpendicular, sail facing you = this is the best position to raise up the sail.

3) lock your legs, back, shoulder and arms to fully utilise body weight to uphaul.

4) it's a balance of yourself, the rig, the wind and choppy waters that needs to get the hang of.

this is probably be the hardest hurdle to cross before anyone would start enjoy windsurfing, which many gave up.  Smiley

I used to (gently) sit on the sail until the boom end pointed directly downwards towards the sea bed. The sail would not catch water and would be easy to lift.

One method that i like to use is to make sure the mast is perpendicular to the wind, once thats done, just pull the uphaul and the wind will catch the sail on the under side and help lift it outta the water. Just to add, for alignment, just let the rig drift a bit and the sail will automatically align itself perpendicularly to the wind. If you want to align it quick just grab the mast and swim with it to align it yourself. Keep your back straight if you dont want a slip disc.

Nothing beats water starting of course, takes a hell lot of stress off your back, start off with beach starts. Beach/water starts are pretty easy once you catch the hang of it, just think bearing off while sailing.

Another technique is to slowly lift the sail up onto the board.. From there on you should be able to uphaul effortlessly..
