The Ulsan race started today, Northeast direction. 10-20 kts. 6 heats were run today.
F192, ISV 11 and BRA 999 are dominating....the usual suspects, yawn.. 10 pros are competing in the event and that leaves us fighting for winning the loser pool.
Lots of latest stuffs here. Learning a geat deal about improving paces and skills.
Very enriching to see the top speed by the pros, very different from the way we sail.
However, for me and those who are used to East Coast condition, the water is Fxxxing cold. Definately more cold from last year based on repeated attendees. Even the Pros or Ang Mohs are wearing full suits.Last night, the whole place was covered up in fog and was 15C. A welcome change from the hot and humid S'pore.
Organsier is doing a great job for everyone. Fireworks, concerts etc, are put up by organiser to make us feel at home. The wind is expected to pick up over the weekend. 6.5m will be my wise choice.
RSX class is currently dominated by Ek (THA), very promising towards 2008 Olympic. Kitesurfing is even included in the racng program.
More reports (I hope with the limited internet access) will posted soon.
Happy Sailing

day 2, Sat
The wind pick up from day 1. Blew from 15-25+ kts. Proved a bit handful for sailors who are used to 15 or less kts.
Perfect weather, clear sunny skies, temperature in the mid 20s celcius, still the icy water can shrink any balls....
The sea was full of windsurfers with the additional of national Korean weekend race. Estimated about close to 100 or more boards were on the water.
The mortals were at best on the 7.5m or less. I was blasting away on my trusty 6.5m, sometimes sheeting out when hitting the gusts. The 'immortals' or the pros were on 9m-7.8m for maximum power or risking for outrageous wipeout. Big swells (about 2-3m) greeted to those who decided to race. Very funny to see even the pros were bouncing like basketballs.
History repeated itself with the camera helicopter again, this time the incident was on the land, flew too near to beach. The wind lifted one of the tentage and a board and hit onto Koo's new excocet slalom board. The fin of the other board 'stab' right thru his deck. The pilot may be pressed for compensation, perhaps ??
After 2 rounds, yawn, the pros are in the top 10. Top asian is Kor followed by Koo and Bo.
To round it off on a good slalom day, there was bbq cum beer dinner with outrageous games to end a eventful day.
Forecasted tomorrow will be windless.
Happy sailing

K21,
According to THA and locals, this year's weather is fxxxxing cold. Even there's snow in parts of Germany 2 days ago( May ?). There are 3 mafias in Ulsan, usual Penang mafia and 2 additional mafias from KL, Ken and Daniel Leow. The mafias are desperately looking for action eveynite.

That chopper pilot obviously has it in for Koo. The famous picture of him being blown away last year by the down draft and now this year the pilot goes after his board. Oh dear ! Anyway good to hear Koo is doing well again - Mana Mana crew wish him all the best.

Hello! Greetings from 30 deg Valencia! Wished I could be racing in Ulsan... what a lovely place... and what racing! I suppose the ideal situation would be to beam (à la Star Trek style) all the lovely topless bronzed topless chics to Ulsan beach? Then at least there would be reason not to go on to startline! In any case, keep the reports coming... and some pics please!!! More news is great news! Not so exciting here for me at the moment... Although I am sailing on enough carbon to last cobra factory for a year... I ain't going nearly as fast! Oh yes... you can see a eurosport feature (which carry's interview of Charles the ex-cameraman) on the team at www.singaporeans-in-americas-cup.com!Ciao!

last 2 days, no wind....
mingling and sharing tips with others or just sleeping in the room.
on the last day, after prize giving, there was a idol-worship concert.
overall, the duration that I had planed in Ulsan is as good for the whole of this year's monsoon.
no pics, but hoping the organsier will it up soon.
conclusion, great event, but a little bit cold.

The wind in Korea during spring March thru End May and Autumn Sept thru end Nov has very forceful wind conditions like during the saturday 3rd June 06 at Ulsan race, about 20 plus knots blowing all day long... unlike in singapore. Visit Korea, people windsurf here till -2 deg C. When it starts icing, its snow ski time... Cheers !
