hi
i am very new to the windsurfing sport. i wish to get some tips
i read from the bluefinz technique page. it says 'Look carefully at Meng's sail. The foot of the sail is held down to the deck, along the central line of the hull. The entire sail is held upright and exposed to the wind, but sheeted in to get optimum drive. All this has been achieved by his stance.'
i don understand what it say. isnt it if i put my sail to the back of the board to prevent the wind from escaping, won the board turn into the wind, and soon i will be in the no go zone. and what do u mean buy sheeting in??
also i saw that if i roll my shoulders, i will get extra leverage. how does this help me. and by doing so won i be bending my back. i learn from my  windsurfing crash course that i need to keep my back straight.
lastly, when i rig my 4m soft sail with battens, there are some creases. the uphaul and downhaul are very tension, is this correct, if not how should i improve it.
i would really appriciate that someone helps me with this doubts. sorry for my bad english..
thanks

hi,

i c u got questions on sailing stances and rigging it rite.

where do u sail at ?
what gear r u on rite now ?
how long have u sailed ? on harness already ?

to have a better understanding, do go down to the beach, preferably PA as most of us r based there now. i'm sure there are many experienced sailors around who can explain and answer your questions on the spot.

PA is holding the annual PA race in mid August 2006.
u may want to take this opportunity to practise and share pointers with us.
we will soon be holding usual 'informal' training sessions in july weekends prior to the race. any 1 is welcomed to join the practises.

c u around

hi,

i started wsf at this age too.

1st thing 1st, eat more, grow strong and heavy.
4m sail is too small for u if u want to improve in S'pore.
there is no cost for any sessions, just join in when u can.
i'm sure your instructors at NSC r able to guide u along.
get your own proper gear when u can, better gear = better improvement.

seen lots of 15 or 16 yrs old gave up wsf too easily, hope u enjoy wsf foremost.

if possible, get NSC to lend u an one-design set.

good platform for u to improve on.
don't jump onto shortboards unless u can tack and jibe very well on it.

NSC has lots of useful gear for u, check with your resident instructor.

or else, hunt for your own longboard and 7.4mē < sail, u get to sail more thru your own gear.

What time, will try to make it out on water, if possible. A bit difficult to launch or recover at NSC, but fun zooming past all the dinghies.

Nice to know that a young sailors is keen to progress further and seeking help. Don't think 4m and easy rider can take you far / fast. ask James Chong (at NSC) if he can assign you an IMCO board and joint the other boys but don't depend on them for good equipment.

If you really want to progress learn to use a harness and later get onto the footstrips. don't read too much about all that since your equipment set up is different and you'll need to understand effect of Apparent Wind to relate to it

Keep trying

hi

i would like to use the imco, one design boards. but there are not enough of it. secondy, nsc does not have the mast foot for it. do u know where i can get it. and wat other equipment can i rent at pa to suit me. nsc have a 5.5 m soft sail but it is very heavy for a 5.5m. it is a sail tat came with the bic sport, techno one design board. last time, i still could rent a imco board at pasta, but now it closed down.

I believe there are several one design boards (1994 model) for sale at pasta, with rigs. You will have to leave a message for Jasmine because she is only there on rare occasions.

I don't know. I was only told that they are for sale. The boards are in good condition. Just go to the restaurant, talk to the staff and leave a message for Jasmine saying you are interested in buying one of the One Design boards. And try to bargain down...

Hi LLGG, I think U better concentrate on more water time on wind surfing than the certification. The paper is not going to make u any better if U cant sail well.Stick to any 1 of these guys to get tips and learn more from them.
