Re-painting of sail board....

Hi,

I'm kinda curious and hope to get some advice, if the board colour is kinda worned off, can I do some DIY painting over the top of the board, say planning to paint a personal design/logo. If yes, is there any kind of paint that can be use or must it be spray painted or can it be oil based paint? I may sound kinda cheapo... I thought of giving my board a special design though it may be thrashed in later time.
