Hi, I'm a heavy (85kg)on-off beginner looking into getting some 2nd hand gear and progress from rental boards. Would really appreciate some advice on the appropriate sail, board vol etc to get. Was contemplating getting a fanatic gecko 135l with a 7.5m2 sail, but not too sure if I am good enough or light enough for the setup.
I have done all previous practice on beginner boards @ PA, can do tacks and gybes and 'beginner blasting' (as much as 5m2 can take u), but no prior practice on harness.
thanks.

You should be looking at something at least 170 litres or more and 90cm or more in width. Something like the GO or similar would be the right fit for a board. 7.5 is ok to start with in our conditions. The Gecko is 60plus cm wide, it would be right for an intermediate or expert who can handle harness/footstraps/carve gybing in say 15knots and above but is hardly suitable for learning for someone your weight (or any other weight).

Hi Arinus, I have a BIC Techno 170L 94cm width Formula. I only surf in the weekend. If you surf in the weekdays, maybe we can work out something to share the board. Call me at 98257276 if interested.

sarf, thanks for the offer. Yeah I surf only when I am back in SGP over summer and weekdays are not a problem. Will take note of your number, but in the meantime, it would be great if you could let me in a bit more into the deal you are talking about.
You can contact me at
eeera_sun@yahoo.co.uk
Thanks dude.
regards,
ira
