Hi all,

Recent addition to the windsurfing world, consider me as the only one doing it over here in my end of the world.

Have a question in regards to the boom settings recently bought a gastra matrix 6.5 and a chinook boom, however am not quite sure on how to set the boom correctly.

I see numbers on the boom from 1 to 24 on either sides, but the sliding collar holes amounts to 31 holes on either side.

Anyone can advise on which setting it should be set on?

Last time I tried was to have the outhaul tight enough with atleast 4 cm from the sail.

Any general tips or guidelines on this settings?

Hi Desertsurfer,

The easiest way to figure out how to get the boom setting right take a look at :

 http://www.gaastra.com/sails/rigging-guides/general/

The boom length of the matrix 6.5 is 203cm, this means the inner distance from the boom head to the rear end of the boom.

Hi Sukhdev,

Thanks    I alredy viewed that information, but I thought those numbers on the chinook boom served a purpose, so I take it that the ideal setting would be sail over boom and extend 5cm from the clew should do it?

Also another question, the mast base should all the way to the front of the slot or adjusted accordingly to me own settings?

Thanks

The +5cm method works very well & thats what I generally use myself. Just go with that. Re mast foot, centre in the slot should do fine for the 6.5. As a very crude rule of thumb, pulling it further back in the slot increases maneuverability, pushing it forward increases control (by keeping the nose down, applicable at higher speeds/rough water).
