158 first launch

thought I'd share some thoughts about the new 158.

phil and I tested it today, 10-14 knots against the 147, using 11m in Kihie, Maui. It did everything it was supposed to do. Very good performance in the light wind against the 147. It was very comfortable, easy on the feet. It rode high and dry, with good trim. Downwind was super clean.

We used the back front straps (double screwed) and the forward of the back straps. Mast track in the middle.

Another step forward, no complaints. I wll race on one in Japan next week, so that will be the first real race test.

why would some1, let alone kp, set up his straps narrow like that?

i've got my footstraps set up like that coz i've been sailing the diva (narrower strap-to-strap distance)  but i've been told wider is generally better for lower cog & more stable stance.

sukhdev? any1?

huang, i'll know why in a week or two when we get the f158 out; on every formula i've used one of the key tuning points is footstrap position. stay tuned..

two screw per end of footstrap (ie four per footstrap) i presume to aid in antitwist. wonder why they need it though since the new starboard antitwist device works pretty well.

actually thats a pet peeve of mine, all rear straps should be 2 screws. have had that on all my customs for years, not only its super antitwist but allows you in some instances to vary the angle of the rear strap if you wish (rare). also, if you use just the outer holes, you can set it very outboard, or if you use the inner holes you can set it inboard, so effectively the rear straps then have 3 possible settings relative to the rail.
