BSAS will be having a meeting soon to decide on the series discussed here. This might be a good opportunity for all of you to provide feedback. So far what I've heard from some of you is:

- different classes (Youth, Open, Masters, Grand Masters, Ladies).
- A & B Fleet for open
- mix of course, slalom & long distance to keep the fun element as well as give variety.

Other stuff I can think of or has been mentioned:
- racing clinics before the series: how many are interested? Contact me directly and I'll run a basic clinic on starting, tactics, tuning etc.
- practise races

Ok...time for your brains to work..more feedback!

Sukhdev,

Racing clinics, practice sessions etc. can start as soon as there is sufficient interest and someone is prepared to go out and lay buoys.  You need the co-operation of the clubs to lend these items of course.

suggest we start with simple race formats , preferably short ones ! initially then when more sailors are confident, we can add the long-distance or the more difficult ones.

perhaps we can also have some variety of fun race e.g. mixed relays comprising one 1 master+1 lady+1 grandmaster+ 1 novice ; so overall distance gap will not be so great.

i like the idea of race clinics ; please do conduct them before the series . Also before the actual race weekend, maybe the more experienced racers can coach the novices what is the best way(s) to navigate the course instead of us trying to figure it out on that day. Very tramatic as very often dunno how to read the conditions.

Enthusiast,

agree with you regarding simple race formats first; its no accident that the long reach - one gybe - reach back races are the most popular at manamana and kuantan.

re clinics thats easy - as long as enough people indicate interest should be no problem running them, if anyone is interested email me and I'll do some scheduling once we have a dozen names or so.

BSAS has organised some Formula (FW) races in 2002 and will do so in 2003.

Hope to see more FW sailors taking part in the new year.

The (weekend) races usually start in June till about August.

Happy sailing
