Where in SE Asia...please help!!

But

Is there anywhere in SE asia that is going to be windy and affordable in Dec/Jan?

After hearing about the merits of Bintan I enquired re the cost of a week there....$780 dollars!!! WTF - you could hire a yacht in the med for less!!

So anyone know of a place that has half decent kit and affordable?...and good conditions.

The only real alternative (with good eqpt) would be Vietnam.
A hard work alternative would be AirAsia from KL to Clark Air Base (RM 49 something), hitch hike to Manila ferry terminal (free), go 3rd class on the ferry to Panay (RM 20 approx + US$ 1 for the porter), hitch hike to Caticlan (free) swim the Straits to Boracay (about 2 hrs and free).Then camp for free at the Golf Club.
There is good eqpt at Greenyard Resort.

Rates of hotels vary on Bintan from Banyan Tree 5*to Mana Mana. You don't state which hotel was quoted to you. Send an e mail to manamana@pacific.net.sg for the period you want and I am sure you will find the prices well below what you appear to have come up with.

Even the single occupancy rate for AMSLAM Week, Asian Windsurfing Tour (see www.manamana.com click Amslam icon),which icludes b'fast on pre race days and full meal regimen race days, is approx US$380 or 215 Pounds - which doesnt go very far in the UK.
