Heard that Mana Mana is a good place for wsf, especially during monsoon. how ever upon checking the mana mana website, it cost $100/night. Is they other alternative for cheaper accom? How can we bring our equipment there, does the ferry allow us to bring so many bulky items and how much it cost if we can ferry it over?

manamana's the most accessible place around here where you can get fairly good side onshore winds (& WAVES on occasion) during the NE monsoon. depends on your luck though ... manamana's also the cheapest resort near that part of the bintan coast. the ferries to bintan & the bus from the ferry terminal to manamana will take your equipment (for $5 or $10 if i remember right) so you'll only have to worry abt getting it to TMFT. aloha & hope to see u @ manamana

Hi Feng Ji,
you can take equipment on the ferry on problem, I once took acroos 9 boards (!!) in one trip. At the other end, if you are staying at manamana they will transport the gear to the resort for you. call manamana in advance and tell them you are bringing boards.
A cheaper alternative is to stay at the Bintan Lodge. This is near the market but some distance away from the beach (10 minutes by bus). I'll look up their contacts and post them here.
Don't get scared of the conditions, most times its quite manageable and the regular sailors will help out with tips etc. The swell only hits a few times a season. Also, the rescue service is excellent, puts the rescue at our local clubs to shame.

Think you better ferry your stuff there if you're staying for a week, beats renting a set there everyday for 70 bucks(i think) a day.

Yeah I wanted to bring my equip there, but this was long planned as a family tip so cannot spend much time wsf (else my family will dump me there, though a good idea).
So have to only use one day to experiance and later work out a wsf trip sometime later.
Anybody heard of Jason Beach (some where along the way to kuantan). Heard that also a very nice place to wsf and there is wave there.

Actually it is called Jason Bay. I call it cowshit and sandfly bay. It is sort of overrated becoz Manamana nearer & stronger wind. Kuantan is further but more fun. Damn hassle to drive back when causeway got jam. Long ago alot of Singapore windsurfer try that place but dont take your non windsurfer partner there with you. They will sure kill you cos they will get so bored.

right on tom, reminds me about the good old days sailing jason bay. another highlight about the bay is when the tide's low, oh mind is really low and far out walk to reach the water line..... anyways there's also a good local fishing village nearby to top up your hungry stomach too...after ripping your heart & soul out there. just a word of caution if you are going there, local cows has the right of way either on the beach or on the road at all times... oh yes feng zi, the waves are awesome (shore break) when is honking and is port tack jump on the way out.....go get'em
